Mykonos Airport History
Mykonos airport began its operation in the month of June, 1971. Featuring a 1900 meter runway, the airport is at an elevation of 405ft from the sea level.
The importance of Mykonos airport increased in the early 1960’s when the town of Mykonos became a centre of the hippie movement. Thousands of tourists thronged to this beautiful locale in search of peace and tranquility. The authorities woke up to the fact that the destination could be milked for profits and that is why extensive investments were made in modernizing the airport.
Thanks to these investments the town of Mykonos has become a major money earner for the local government with thousands turning up everyday to experience the rich historical traditions of this town.
